Back in college, I sat behind this guy with a Chinese character tattooed on the back of his neck.  When I asked why he chose that kanji, he answered that it meant “friend.”  It actually meant “left.”  :-|

左 (hidari) - left

右 (migi) - right

友 (tomo) - friend
